Symptoms & Treatments
  • Physical and mental symptoms which last longer than 6 months are considered to be chronic. Some conditions have gradually come on over the years and others have followed after injury, illness, surgery, or emotional shock.
    • Chronic disorders are a result of malfunctions occuring in one or more of the organ systems in the body. The mouth, stomach, intestines, gall bladder and pancreas are responsible for the digestion and absorption of food, and the elimination of waiste products along with the skin, lungs, and kidneys. The musculoskeletal system, with its bones and joints , muscles and tendons, bursae and articular discs, has the job of protecting the vital organs, carrying out all voluntary and involuntary movement, and supporting the body as a whole.
  • Symptoms involving pain and limitation of movement affect all the organ systems.. We become less active when it is painful to move around. The body compensates by changing posture to minimize the pain. This then creates other adaptations until there is no more "give" in the mechanics of the system. This is the debilitated chronic pain problem, years in the making.
    • The treatment of pain symptoms arising from dysfunction of joint mechanics, muscular shortening, tightness, and spasm begins with recognizing the cells must have proper nourishment and a clean environment in order to perform to their potential. Drinking at least 4-6 ounces of water per hour as well as a diet high in fresh vegatables, fruit, whole grains, fish, nuts and seeds will provide a foundation to support healthy cells. The goal of treatment is to restore maximum range of pain free movement in postural and muscular balance. This is accomplished by the use of moist wet heat, therapeutic massage, stretching excercises, and the restoration of movement to the joints. Except for very isolated problems, the entire system is evaluated because the bones, muscles, and joints function as a unit. A sore toe will lead to a sore back.
  • Chinese Medicine considers all physical and mental symptoms to be a result of an imbalance of energy flowing within and through the body in channels called meridians. As the balance and harmony of the energy is restored, the symptoms resolve.
    • Other conditions as well as pain problems may be treated with acupuncture. Nature heals. We assist by providing an environment in which healing can be received and the skills to support the healing process.
